VERY SMALL APERTURE TERMINAL

VERY SMALL APERTURE TERMINAL (VSAT)

Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSATs) are parabolic dishes with electronic equipment used to receive and transmit information in the form of voice, video and/or data via a satellite. They offer the ability to connect urban and remote areas without incurring large upfront capital investments. VSATs claim an additional advantage of quick installation. They can be used to provide coverage across large areas at a fraction of the cost and time of more traditional, wired telecommunication networks.

There are certain companies or organizations where the most appropriate choice for internet access would be through a VSAT. Generally, a VSAT solution is a necessity for companies or organizations based in rural areas without local access to an ISP`s or Data Operator’s network.

GLOBAL SYSTEM FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATIONS BACKHAUL

Global System for Mobile Communications (GSMC) cellular service currently accounts for approximately 80 percent of worldwide cellular traffic, distantly followed by Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) at 14 percent and Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) at 6 percent. While GSMC is one of the most pervasive technologies in the metropolitan mobile communications market today it is also the primary choice in developing markets. As the edge of existing networks continues to press outward, satellite becomes the de facto solution for remote regions.

Furthermore, as communication networks continue to extend to remote areas, the terrestrial infrastructure required to interconnect GSMC networks is not always sufficient. Satellites provide an ideal GSMC backhaul solution, to extend cellular coverage, create a network backbone, and even provide a back-up solution as needed.

GSMC backhauling via satellite enables businesses to bypass the terrestrial infrastructure, connecting the most remote areas. Networks are quick to set up and easily can be expanded as business needs evolve.

DIGITAL VIDEO BROADCASTING

The Digital Video Broadcasting Project (DVB) is an industry-led consortium of more than 260 broadcasters, manufacturers, network operators, software developers, regulatory bodies and others in more than 35 countries. The DVB Project is committed to designing global standards for the delivery of digital television and data services. Services adhering to DVB standards are available on every continent with more than 120 million DVB receivers currently deployed.

DVB-S2
DVB-S2 provides greater bandwidth efficiency and improved network capacity which reduces operating costs. DVB-S2 incorporates state-of-the-art modulation (QPSK, 8PSK, and 16-APSK), advanced forward error correction coding, and use of modern data compression techniques to implement a cost-effective IP based solution. The system provides the highest bandwidth efficiency on the forward and return links. The system offers service providers key benefits such as VoIP header compression, multimedia support with integrated data, voice and video applications, each of which operate over C, Ku or Ka bands.

Significant improvements can be made to future VSAT systems with the addition of artificial intelligence to the network. These capabilities offer the promise of enhanced performance and economic gains. This will allow any service provider to offer new and more cost effective services to their customers.

Corporate office connectivity or Internet via satellite
With Foresight Technologies’ solution using DVB S2, branch connectivity for large corporations with internet services in remote locations enjoy a permanent 2-way connection. This saves hours of delay in logging-on, downloading large files, utilizing the World Wide Web, downloading E-mail and waiting for connection response.

Five years ago, our engineering team began work in broadband internet service. Throughout this time, we have accumulated a wealth of experience in supporting customers and maintaining a stable network platform.

DIGITAL SATELLITE NEWS GATHERING / MOBILE VSAT

Digital Satellite News Gathering (DSNG) is the use of mobile communications equipment for the purpose of worldwide news casting. Mobile units are usually vans equipped with advanced, two-way audio and video transmitters and receivers, using dish antennas aimed at geostationary satellites.

A modern DSNG van is sophisticated and capable of deployment practically anywhere in the civilized world. Signals are beamed between a geostationary satellite and the van, and between the satellite and a control room run by a broadcast station or network. In the most advanced systems, Internet Protocol (IP) is used. Broadcast engineers are currently working on designs for remotely controlled, Robotic DSNG vehicles to be teleoperated in hostile environments such as battle zones, deep space missions, and undersea explorations, all without endangering the lives of human operators.
